This lecture was given at UC Berkeley’s Center on Institutions and Governance on November 17, 2006 with Prof. Loïc Wacquant and Tyler, Stovall. His lecture ‘Burn Baby Burn, French Style? Roots of the Riots in Urban France’ discusses the roots of numerous riots and destruction experienced in France’s cities in 2005 and 2006 and their relation to class, ‘race’, and the state.

This keynote lecture was delivered on June 21, 2012, at Paris, France, at the 3rd Conference of the International Network for the Study of Advanced Urban Marginality.  His lecture, ‘Urban Marginality and the State,’ is a discussion on the sociological understanding of the state and how they deal with ” problem categories and problem territories, that is the populations pushed or trapped at the bottom of symbolic, social, and physical space in the metropolis. ”

In the 7th year of Hrant Dink Memorial Lecture on Freedom of Expression and Human Rights presented by Bogazici University’s History, Sociology and Political Science and International Relation departments, Loïc Wacquant gave a lecture titled ‘Inequality, Marginality, and Social Justice in the City.’ This lecture was delivered on 17 January, 2014.
